FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers about our hedge and garden services in the Ottawa & Gatineau area.

Question

How often should I have my hedges trimmed?

The frequency depends on the hedge type and growth rate, but at least once a year is recommended for optimal health and appearance.

Question

Can you help with planting new trees or removing old ones?

Yes, we offer professional tree planting and removal services to enhance your landscape safely and efficiently.

Question

When is the best time to trim my hedges?

In Ontario, the best time to trim established & previously maintained hedges is late August through early November. A routine late fall service also ensures a slower re-growth, as trimming inside the main growing season triggers new growth. HOWEVER, If your hedge has not been trimmed or shaped in a number of years it is advised to get to them earlier in the growing season (may-july) so they have time to regenerate & fill in nicely.

Question

How much can be taken off my hedge?

For a standard annual trim, you never want to exceed 1/3rd of foliage. Cedar is an evergreen, meaning they never quite go fully dormant. Because of this, they will continue to grow slowly. Like all evergreens, as they branch out, the inner needles/fronds die off & will not regenerate - meaning, the longer they grow out, the less they can be brought back without doing permanent damage. A great reason to have them professionally serviced annually or bi-annually!
